New York-born multihyphenate LAW D. Soul cooks up club ecstasy on his first fully-electronic effort, Sex, Pills, BASS & Thrill
Prolific as a songwriter and emcee for the last 10+ years, New York-born LAW D. Soul’s transition into dance music came as necessity. Having relied on outside producers and beatmakers for his work as an emcee, licensing issues eventually caused LAW to begin experimenting with his own production. From these sessions, a raw, underground classic was birthed.
There's no second-guessing here. What you see is what you get. "Ba D.ada (BASS on Another Level)?" Pure Miami bass collides with blown-out trap. The title track, "Sex, Pills, BASS & Thrill?" Seductive, dark, minimal tech-house where percussive toplines brew like a thunderstorm. "E D. M?" Well, that's perhaps best categorized as uplifting, progressive house, but you get the point.
Throughout its brisk runtime, Sex, Pills, BASS & Thrill shines a spotlight on LAW D. Soul's masterful, pitched-down, and cut-up vocal sampling, alongside trunk-rattling tuned-808s, all-consuming sub bass, and dark hoover synths scattered throughout. The end result is a rapture of pure energy with nods to an impressive array of artists such as Jeff Mills, DJ Screw and Major Lazer alike. Sex, Pills, BASS & Thrill delivers soulful house combined with dark techno and new-school bass.
Almighty.
