Industrial dub powerhouse Andrew Nolan links with JK FLESH for brash drum & bass throwback
"The Skriker of Yorkshire" signals imminent arrival of Nolan's new album, Black Dogs
No stranger to the world of industrial noise, Toronto-based Andrew Nolan has been especially prolific lately, producing a slew of notable solo work alongside collaborations with artists like Refused, Full of Hell and The Body.
His latest, Black Dogs, continues his singular vision of hip-hop-informed industrial dub. Amidst the menacing crescendo of dread, beat, and bass-heavy tracks is standout "The Skriker of Yorkshire" featuring JK FLESH, aka Justin K Broadrick of GODFLESH and jesu.
Distorted, fast-paced breaks kick things off as Nolan's recordings of junk metal give way to breakdowns of an ominous Mellotron choir—an intentional nod to jesu's ”Heart Ache.” The song expertly morphs into a superb throwback to the glory days of drum & bass with everything you'd expect: crisp snares, neck-snappingly precise breaks, and sub-bass for days.
