HVIRESS

HVIRESS is the occult, musical love child of Brighton, UK-based Hana Piranha and Mishkin Fitzgerald (of Birdeatsbaby). The duo have been fierce friends and writing partners since touring together in 2013, when they discovered they had far more in common than just heavy music.

Both come from sheltered religious backgrounds (one Catholic, one Protestant), with a strong focus on discipline and achievement. Despite limited exposure to pop culture early in life, Hana and Mishkin were drawn to rock as an expression of inner turmoil, finding shared solace in songwriting. In 2014, when Birdeatsbaby’s violinist announced her departure from the band, Hana stepped-in for what would begin their musical career together.

The two groups began to tour together relentlessly, exploring all the decadences that rock and roll can offer. In 2016 however, the intensity of this lifestyle began to present a problem. It was time to step back and reconsider priorities, including a reassessment of what had now become a romantic partnership. At a more mature stage of life, and still touring heavily, the pair had renewed focus: a sustainable career based on strong songwriting and authenticity.

With a shared interest in spirituality, and most particularly the occult, Hana and Mishkin decided to combine energies into new, dark electronic project HVIRESS. Embracing her classical roots, Hana’s vision is founded in the culture and aesthetic of ancient Greek mythology. Mishkin’s fascination with occult practices, combined with her innovative approach to music theory, add to the group’s unusual, magikal leanings.

The pair collaborated with composer and producer Garry Mitchell (Birdeatsbaby) to write their debut self-titled EP which was mixed by songwriter and producer Evan Rodaniche (Cage9). Working with long-time friend and collaborator, Scott Chalmers, master of the macabre, the duo also creates visual art that lifts their music to the next level.

HVIRESS’ full-length album, BITCHHOUSE is slated for release on GIVE/TAKE.
