CARTHAGE
CARTHAGE is Birmingham, UK-based Damian B. Perhaps best-known for his experimental metal project khost alongside Andy Swan (Final, TACTICAL PAGAN), over the years, he’s been a part of Gauge, Deathless, 16-17, and Cortex along with contributing to many experimental releases, including Techno Animal’s Re-Entry (consisting of Justin K Broadrick and Kevin Martin) on Virgin Records.
His latest full-length offering is a bursting tapestry of songs written and recorded during late night sessions into the very early hours. Filtering inspiration from road films, journals, snatches of conversation misheard, and places partly forgotten through a sleep-deprived, medicated mist (recording was interrupted by an accident and subsequent hospital stay).
Subdued and intricately-layered vocals collide with shoegaze-style guitar, metal shards, gorgeous piano lines, and abstract electronics. Downtempo distant, driving rhythms are interrupted by jarring transitions, akin to browsing stations on a radio dial. The result is a dreamlike expedition in which fans of shoegaze, post-hardcore, synth, noise rock, and post-punk will find comfort in.
Mastered by Justin K Broadrick, Duskdawn is available now on limited edition maxi-style CD and digital platforms worldwide.
“A shoegaze-meets-noise masterpiece." - Sounds Vegan
"Duskdawn is a perfect vehicle for Bennett, allowing him to work across all his chosen genres – heavy guitar-based music residing at the forefront, but cut through with electronic experimentation, hints of shoegaze, a touch of krautrock, and plenty of post-hardcore and lo-fi." - Musique Machine
"CARTHAGE's new album Duskdawn is not just music, it is an immersion into an alternative reality woven from disturbing sounds and drug-induced darkness." - Stigmata Magazine
"Bits and pieces, sometimes disparate, sometimes harmonizing, flicker and float and glide and glitch over and through the songs’ loose scaffolding, creating an effect that can be as cozy as it is disquieting." - Toilet Ov Hell
"At first I was sure it was a good bit of lo-fi dreampop, but then the next part was utter industrial multi-layered bliss, by an artist who has been around long enough to know exactly what he’s doing." - Veil of Sound on "wholivesinsideofyou"
