KK NULL
Tokyo, Japan’s Kazuyuki Kishino (aka KK NULL) is one of the top names in Japanese noise and has been one of the great cult artists in experimental music since the 1980's.
In the early 90's, Kishino gained worldwide recognition as mastermind, guitarist, and singer behind progressive hardcore band Zeni Geva, releasing five albums produced by Steve Albini (two on Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label).
While guitar was his main instrument for nearly thirty years, Kishino has gradually moved towards a more electronic approach. Since the late 90's, he has been concentrating efforts on his solo and collaborative work, exploring the outer territories of electronica. The artist spawns intense clashing waves of noise, structured electro-acoustic ambience, broken-down rhythmics, scattered pitch sculptures and droning isolationist material which could be described "cosmic noise maximal/minimalism".
KK NULL has worked with luminaries such as John Zorn, Sonic Youth, Merzbow, and countless others.
The latest from KK NULL and Swiss experimentalist Joel Gilardini's acclaimed series, Psychic Drones 3 is available now.
"An evocative mix of abstracted electronic shriek and rhythmic serenity." - The Wire
"Leaves the listener in a constant state of tense anticipation...Psychic Drones 3 will stick in your mind whether you like it or not." - ReGen Magazine
"The consummate fruit of a prolific meeting between KK NULL and Joel Gilardini...With this patient work of goldsmiths of molten matter, they find themselves on the hypnotic threshold of open introspection where sacred and profane often merge to sink into a long swirling continuum." - un(e)energumene
"A great, big, menacing alien sound that descends from the sky; psychedelic noise at its finest. One of my favourite works of noisy ambience as of this point in time, and one of my favourite works in the KK NULL catalogue." - Musique Machine
"There are grinding, churning and pulsating drones, crackles of distortion and glitch, digital detritus. It's rich, lush, and only sometimes noisy listening, highly recommended." - Utility Fog
"Noise music remains a powerful force for a union between texture, rhythm, and the basics of melody. KK NULL has developed it into a voice of its own. Resembles Surfing With the Alien if slowed down to the pace of erosion and intensified with a Fripp/Eno sensibility of stacking melodic fragments." - Death Metal Underground
"Evokes an atmosphere full of mysticism, inviting us to introspection through a hypnotic and transcendental sound journey. An aesthetically stunning project and deeply immersive listening experience." - Electro Emotions
