Tulip Tiger

Tulip Tiger’s Augustus Watkins is an infinite constant: always creating. Though their first official release was in 2019, Watkins has been releasing music at a prolific rate since the 00's, often collaborating on multiple projects at once.

Tulip Tiger, Watkins’ instrumental project, is an eclectic mix of instrumental big beat, house, nu jazz, trip hop and synthwave. Tulip Tiger is set apart from Watkins’ recent work (Bijou Noir, DEATHDANCE) mainly by its freewheeling irreverence.

For 2019’s Your Muse Follows Me, Watkins raided his motley vault and quite literally produced the future of electronic music. In early 2020, the artist released a digital 7” called My Higher Self Is Really Dope, produced in Prague. Tulip Tiger's second full-length, entitled Award Winning Redemption Arc was recorded in a classic car parked in Hollywood, and released in July 2020. In winter 2021, Tulip Tiger collaborated with producer Garrett Neal (Holidae) on Synth Xmas II, a collection of subdued and tranquil classic holiday hymns which the duo dubbed "Xanax and a bottle of red Christmas". In April 2022, Tulip Tiger contributed a remix of “Himalayas,” from Stewart Copeland and Ricky Kej’s Grammy-winning album. Then, in 2023 Tulip Tiger released Thrilling and Robust Vegan Theremin Solos From Beyond the Grave.

The project’s latest release, titled dummy thicc patience thin releases via GIVE/TAKE in February. Describing his process, Watkins says, “I opened my folder of songs and I thought I had two in there, but it turns out I had seven, so now I’m releasing them.”

Tulip Tiger is currently based in Los Angeles.
