Grave Generator reconstructs metal with brutal electronic textures
Debut single co-engineered by Jonathan Ford of Dissociate
South Korea-based metal innovator Grave Generator is here to pummel your senses with his debut single “Excavating Marrow.” Eschewing guitars for synthesizers to capture a uniquely assaulting sound, the project evokes metal gods like Fear Factory and Sepultura but reconstructs the form with carefully crafted—and truly brutal—electronic textures.
Throughout its four minute runtime, “Excavating Marrow” twists and grinds through tempo and time signature changes while founder Nic Heidt uses his harsh vocals to scream affecting lyrics about the demons that haunt us all:
"This track deals with personal aspects of mental health, aging, and creativity. Excavating Marrow as a title and lyric invokes the depth and tenacity to which these issues cling to us. The song itself is mainly about how we can get in our own way and, personally, how creativity can feel like a 'demon' clawing at your very being with its incessant, and sometimes damaging, need to be expressed." - Nic Heidt
The supplementary remix by JQ Lexvold of Bludgeoning Till Exhaustion and Organ Discordance darkens the experiment by adding scathing guitar work, gutturals, and a decimating, ratchet-like kick.
"'Executive Dysfunction' brings modern and classic electronic sensibilities in Dissociate’s signature fashion." - ReGen Magazine
