GIVE/TAKE announces latest release in collaboration with Justin K Broadrick’s Avalanche Recordings – TACTICAL PAGAN
It’s no secret that industrial-metal innovator Justin K Broadrick is prolific, though his Avalanche Recordings imprint may not be as familiar to some. Founded in 1999, the label has hosted landmark releases from Broadrick’s own projects such as such as Godflesh, jesu, and Final, while also showcasing carefully curated works from other artists. Last year, GIVE/TAKE teamed with Avalanche Recordings to co-release Digital Demons, a collaboration between legendary Tokyo-based noise artist KK NULL and Ukrainian composer Dao De Noise.
Now, we are thrilled to announce the latest release in our ongoing collaborative series, this time from Birmingham, UK's TACTICAL PAGAN. Helmed by Andy Swan, TACTICAL PAGAN marks a new chapter for the veteran artist, who began his music career in the early 1980s, inspired by the industrial sounds of Throbbing Gristle, Whitehouse, and Cabaret Voltaire. Over the years, Swan worked alongside Broadrick in Final, before transitioning into dance music in the early ’90s, forming IROHA in the mid-2000s, and contributing to KHOST in 2014.
TACTICAL PAGAN draws from the industrial soundscape of the early ’80s. The album weaves elements of post-industrial, trip-hop, and sprawling downtempo electronics into a hypnotic, codeine-induced haze. Discordant guitar work, eroded beats, vocal samples, and atmospheric synths contort into a mesmerizing, shot-on-VHS aesthetic. The full-length debut was recorded directly to 8-track and mastered by Justin K Broadrick himself.
Releasing worldwide on Friday, November 8th via both Avalanche Recordings and GIVE/TAKE, TACTICAL PAGAN will be available on limited edition maxi-style CD and digital platforms. Pre-order now and receive the lead single, "Mercury Eats Gold," instantly.
