New signing MJIRI shares rousing single from forthcoming EP


"Gloryhole", the new single from London-based MJIRI, is a breath of fresh (and somewhat funky) air.
 
Under a skittering, driving backbone, the song is a dense groove of house with frayed edges of disco and electro. As vocal samples, funk guitar and probing drums dart in and out of consciousness, disparate influences coalesce via MJIRI's intuitive sense of space and progression. The song fits somewhere between the dancefloor and a sci-fi chase scene.

MJIRI (Mel Uye-Parker) is an English-Nigerian singer and composer. She spent her formative years in Nottingham before immersing herself in the Manchester music scene and ultimately moving to London, where she began her music educator career. Uye-Parker currently works as an Ableton Certified Trainer, lecturer at Pointblank Music School, and Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music, Valencia. As a vocalist and writer, she has collaborated with the likes of Backdraft, Rae & Christian, and Yesking.
